Fearless Adaptation: Jarred Coulter’s Team-Driven Mindset
For Jarred Coulter, associate principal for electrical engineering, working with his team at McKinstry has reinforced his belief that embracing adaptability is key to delivering successful projects that meet client needs. With more than three decades in the construction industry, he has seen every step of creating a project, from fieldwork to estimating to design, and knows what works and what doesn’t.
“I grew up in the construction trades,” Coulter said. “I’ve had my feet in both realms, construction and design, and so it just felt like a really good fit to come to McKinstry.”
For the past five years, Coulter has worked as an electrical engineer at McKinstry on a variety of projects that challenge him to think creatively — a key element in McKinstry’s call to be bold through innovative engineering. With a strong interest in revitalization and historic building projects, he sees the potential in projects that require energyefficiency improvements and unique architectural constraints and regulatory requirements to create sustainable, thoughtfully designed buildings.
As a team leader with deep technical experience, delivering successful projects remains central to his motivation.
“Our clients need us to stay on track financially, meet deadlines and be the experts they need every step of the way,” he said. “But that moment of true success is when you turn the systems on and see all the efforts of your labor come to life.”
Coulter emphasizes that while his individual contributions matter, his team’s collective work is fundamental to their success. “It’s really rewarding to see the development of talent within our team,” he said. “The cohesiveness of the team and what we’ve been able to accomplish because of that is why we’re able to do what we do.”
Drawn to McKinstry by the opportunity to be challenged and collaborate closely with others, Coulter continues to thrive alongside colleagues and clients as they create inventive solutions to complex needs.
“The work we do is based on our passions and ability to collaborate,” he said. “We want to take on challenges that push our experience and that we can jump into. That aligns beautifully with McKinstry culture and values, especially around staying constantly curious.”
