Guided by our corporate Action for Impact initiative to address the climate, affordability and equity crises, we are focused on transforming the built environment by breaking down barriers for corporate enterprises pursuing a zero-carbon future.
Our national renewable energy team has successfully developed, built and maintained multi-site, holistic clean energy solutions for clients in the commercial, industrial, property management, real estate investment trust (REIT) and logistics markets.
What Can We Do for You?
McKinstry is different. For our clients, the path to success follows a unique approach:
- Reduce: By identifying and implementing energy use reduction measures first, clients immediately decarbonize their facilities and reduce the need to produce onsite power.
- Optimize: Now that energy use is decreased, controls are installed which ensure facilities are running at their peak performance.
- Produce: By designing holistic renewable energy systems last, fewer assets are required to obtain carbon neutrality.
This approach allows for the most cost-effective installation of renewable solutions that meet the needs of the client.
We also bring a historic track record of expertise in successful implementation of a wide range of funding mechanisms to support a building owner’s energy transition. This includes making the most of legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act, federal, state, and local grants and local government and utility solar incentive programs.

What Have We Done?
In the past three years, McKinstry’s national renewables team has expanded to include over 20 professionals, and has been awarded projects ranging in size from 500 kW to 15 MW across 14 states. This rapid growth, however, does not change our focus. Climate Pledge Arena
McKinstry worked across design and construction teams to help deliver the first carbon-neutral arena in the world before the first game of the Seattle Kraken’s inaugural season.
Denver Public Schools
McKinstry partnered on an energy savings performance contract (ESPC) that delivered guaranteed energy efficiency and operational cost savings, upgraded critical systems and added 5MW of solar across 27 schools, totaling more than 3.8 million square feet.
