Honoring Service: How McKinstry's Veterans Alliance Builds Community and Career Growth 

McKinstry is proud to support a thriving community of veterans who bring adaptability, teamwork, leadership and technical expertise to every project we undertake. 

Our Veterans Alliance stands as one of four employee-led Alliances at McKinstry, joining groups that uplift women, employees of color and the LGBTQ+ community. Together, these Alliances support our commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive workplace where every voice matters and every background strengthens our collective mission. 

A Community Built on Shared Values

The Veterans Alliance brings together employees who are military veterans and colleagues who want to connect with and support the veteran community. The Alliance was formed to address a critical challenge our veterans face — providing a bridge between military and civilian life and a support system for those navigating that transition. 

“The Veterans Alliance creates a space where the values we learned in service — integrity, teamwork and mission accomplishment — align perfectly with McKinstry’s culture,” says Cameron Turner, senior facility operations consultant and national chair of the Veterans Alliance. “We’re not just bringing veterans together, we’re helping them build meaningful careers where their skills truly matter.” 

For many veterans, the transition from military to civilian life can feel challenging. The structure, camaraderie and sense of purpose that defined military service often doesn’t translate easily to traditional corporate environments. That’s where the Veterans Alliance makes a difference — by fostering an environment where veterans can connect, share experiences and find common footing in a new chapter of their careers. 

From Service to Impact

At McKinstry, veterans leverage their experience in roles that make a real difference. Whether they’re managing complex construction projects, engineering sustainable building systems or leading teams to great heights, veterans bring a unique perspective shaped by their service. 

Tiger King, construction project executive and national vice chair of the Veterans Alliance, emphasizes the natural alignment between military experience and McKinstry’s work. “In the military, we learned to solve complex problems under pressure, lead diverse teams and never lose sight of the mission. Those skills translate directly to our work in delivering innovative solutions that transform how buildings perform and how communities thrive.” 

McKinstry values the dedication and expertise that military service members and their families bring to the civilian workforce. We have found that this aligns with the career paths designed for long-term growth.

Strengthening Community Through Commitment 

The Veterans Alliance operates within McKinstry’s broader Alliance community, a network of employee resource groups that work together to create an inclusive culture. 

“Being part of the Alliance community means we’re not operating in isolation,” notes Cameron. “We learn from each other, support each other’s initiatives and build a stronger McKinstry together. The challenges our veterans face aren’t unique — they’re part of the larger conversation about inclusion, belonging and creating pathways for all voices.”  

The Veterans Alliance continues its work to strengthen McKinstry’s commitment to those who served. This includes promoting veteran engagement across the company, supporting recruiting efforts that connect with transitioning service members and ensuring that McKinstry remains a destination employer for military talent.
