Camp County Begins Construction to Upgrade Facilities for Energy Savings

Camp County announces contract with McKinstry to make critical upgrades to county facilitiesat no cost to taxpayers

PITTSBURG, Texas (July 10, 2018) – Camp County representatives have announced that construction has begun on a $500,000 contract with McKinstry, a full-service, design-build-operate-maintain (DBOM) firm specializing in energy and facility services, to implement critical facility upgrades in all county buildings. These upgrades will replace aged facility equipment throughout the county, while preserving historical integrity.

McKinstry worked extensively with Camp County to prepare a contract tailored to its unique needs. The contract value will be funded in its entirety over the course of several years through a guaranteed annual energy savings of $35,154, causing no cost to taxpayers. These renovations will ensure the county buildings are cleaner, brighter and more energy-efficient.

“Much of the facility equipment in Camp County’s buildings is nearing 30-years-old and is in critical need of upgrades,” said Camp County Judge A.J. Mason. “Thankfully, McKinstry offered a way for our county to be able to address these needs in a budget-neutral and fiscally responsible way.”

As current equipment nears the end of its operational life expectancy, there have been stark increases in maintenance and operating costs for the county, which will be offset by the upgrades implemented by McKinstry.

Specific renovations will include replacing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) units and installing LED lighting systems throughout all county buildings, including the courthouse, jail, adult probation center, courthouse annex and county barn.

“Camp County is unique in that it proactively saw the need to implement these upgrades before they became problematic,” said Zach Christensen, McKinstry South Region project manager. “Local leaders have demonstrated themselves to be excellent stewards of county resources, and McKinstry is looking forward to a fruitful partnership with a county that is so dedicated to the prosperity and conservation of the community.”

Construction is scheduled to be completed in mid-August, and the project is not expected to hinder any county services.
