McKinstry Recognizes Safety All-Stars and Safety Champion for 2025

At McKinstry, safety is a non-negotiable. It’s part of everything we do and reflects our Put People First value, making sure every person goes home unharmed.
Our Safety Excellence Recognition (SER) Program highlights and celebrates individual efforts that reinforce and strengthen our safety culture. For the eighth consecutive year, we are honoring a group of Safety All-Stars who went above and beyond to own safety.
Each Safety All-Star is recognized for keeping our people and our clients out of harm’s way through their actions within our four Safety Pillars.
• Active Caring - Acts that prevent potential harm to another employee or person.
• Wait A Second - Acts where a short operational pause is taken in response to a developing hazard or unplanned outcome.
• Safe Work Innovation - Impactful innovations and creativity that improve workplace safety.
• Ask for Help - Acts that prevent potential harm to themselves and others.
“Nothing is more important than delivering on our Put People First value. Nothing is more important than your health and safety,” shared Stephen Walter, Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety. “When you think about our No Harm culture, it’s not just about rules and regulations. It’s about a collective belief and actions that come from all of us that show we care.”

2025 Safety Champion
Dave Malapitan
McKinstry’s 2025 Safety Champion is Dave Malapitan, a logistics manager in our Supply Chain Operation. Multiple colleagues nominated Dave for thoughtfully demonstrating three of McKinstry’s four Safety Pillars: Active Caring, Wait A Second and Safe Work Innovation.
Dave consistently demonstrates strong safety leadership, sound judgment and a proactive approach to protecting both people and property. He routinely evaluates conditions in real time and takes thoughtful action to ensure work is completed safely. For example, after assessing high-wind conditions, Dave made the call to reschedule the loading of large multi-trade racks, prioritizing safety and risk prevention while planning for safe execution once conditions improved.
In another instance, Dave identified trailer damage prior to loading, promptly alerting the field team and coordinating with the trucking company to address the issue and prevent future hazards. He also took the initiative to update Job Hazard Analysis sheets with best practices for windy conditions, creating a valuable resource now used by both current and new employees.
Through his foresight, responsiveness and continuous improvement mindset, Dave reinforces a strong culture of safety and operational excellence. As CEO Dean Allen shared, “Dave actively works safety every day, all day. He shows safety first in all that he does.”
