McKinstry Celebrates Pride Month
A message on our commitment to advancing equity
McKinstry joins those around the world in celebration of the progress, influence and impact of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people. McKinstry recognizes Pride Month to support our LGBTQ+ employees and promote the dignity, respect, and equal rights of all members of our McKinstry team.
This month, I find myself reflecting on a time several years ago when I was invited to hang the Pride flag in our Denver office, similar to other McKinstry offices. The original intent was to hang the flag for the month of June. And yet, the flag has become a consistent and steadfast presence in our office for many years, greeting employees, candidates, clients or partners throughout the year as a symbol of our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion at McKinstry. To me, this couldn’t be more fitting or more emblematic of my message for Pride. We don’t only honor or support our LGBTQ+ community for one month of the year, but rather every day, of every year.
I am proud of our accomplishments and efforts to date to advance LGBTQ+ equity at McKinstry. Some of our recent progress includes:
- Prioritizing spending with subcontractors and suppliers owned by LGBTQ+ individuals as part of our Vendor Diversity program.
- Supporting and growing our Pride Alliance, focused on elevating LGBTQ+ employees and allies, and approving an application for our first-ever union employee to join this alliance.
- Integrating intentional conversation and learning on lived experiences and inclusion for LGBTQ+ individuals through our Building Bridges conversation series. These monthly events provide an opportunity for all employees to participate in a live conversation on critical DEI topics.
