McKinstry and Green Sports Alliance Partner on Zero-Carbon Design-Build Playbook for Venues

The Green Sports Alliance (GSA) released its latest Play to Zero Playbook, Building for the Next Generation, focused on design-build best practices for zero-carbon sports and entertainment venues. McKinstry is proud to have co-authored the playbook alongside GSA and several industry collaborators.

Building for the Next Generation gathers insights and best practices from leading practitioners, organizations and firms in the built environment. It provides sports and entertainment venues methods to use their influence and resources to help tackle climate change in their communities. With the playbook, venues can rely on the “5 Fundamentals” to aid in creating genuine programs to reach decarbonization and resiliency goals.

Despite advances toward more sustainable design and operations, there are opportunities for modernization and significant performance improvements. Overall, the playbook is meant to push the boundaries of sustainable design and operations and advance the future of the sports and entertainment industry.

“There is extraordinary potential for existing venues to become more sustainable. McKinstry’s Zero+ approach of ensuring that getting to zero is achievable, affordable and as easy as possible together with the GSA playbook provides clients a clear path forward,” said McKinstry Senior Vice President for National Design-Build Brian Antonsen. “We are proud to partner with GSA and are looking forward to the positive outcomes this playbook will have for sports and entertainment venues across the country.”

McKinstry is a proud member of the GSA as it furthers our commitment to accelerating decarbonization efforts for healthier and safer communities. McKinstry joined the alliance earlier this year to further our efforts to expand our Action for Impact and Zero+ commitments to sporting venues and communities across the country. Our partnership with Climate Pledge Arena serves as an example of what is possible when sporting venues dedicate themselves to energy efficiency and decarbonization efforts.

Join McKinstry in embracing the collective responsibility of creating more sustainable facilities that surpass current standards, empowering venues to conquer challenges and fulfill clients’ needs and forging a better future for fans altogether.
