Nick Edney

Senior Engineer
Seattle, Washington

What drove you to pursue a career in engineering?

My career as an electrical engineer evolved from a personality trait of being constantly curious, which is one of McKinstry’s values. I have always been interested in how things work and how to make them better. After initially starting my career in the mining/industry sector, I chose to pivot toward a firm and sector that better aligned my interests with my passion for sustainability.

Is there a particular project that highlights your McKinstry experience?

One of my key project highlights was the opportunity to design the solar PV for the recently remodeled Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. This project presented a number of design challenges, of which our team was able to identify innovative solutions to deliver a cost effective, aesthetically pleasing and constructable design.

I am proud to have been a small part of helping the arena achieve their goal of becoming the first International Living Future Institute certified zero-carbon arena in the world.

What really excites you about working at McKinstry?

McKinstry has such a unique culture where we put people first and are willing to make decisions to prioritize our values rather than profit. I’m proud to be a part of a team that challenges traditional thinking, and I’m excited to change the world, one project at a time.
