McKinstry Expands Mechanical Construction Leadership to Drive Operations, Technology and Project Delivery Excellence

James Miller named director of risk management for Pacific Northwest construction projects; Thomas Tellefson named director of mechanical construction for Western Washington.

SEATTLE—(Oct. 23, 2018) —McKinstry reinforced its mechanical construction leadership team with five key promotions. The expanded leadership will enhance project productivity, cost savings and risk mitigation throughout the construction process.

McKinstry promoted James Miller to director of risk management for self-perform construction departments and projects across the Pacific Northwest. A seasoned industry veteran, Miller has been directly involved in new construction and retrofits across commercial, industrial and critical facilities. In his new role, he will direct McKinstry efforts to continually reduce risk and increase predictable financial outcomes. Miller previously served as McKinstry’s director of operations for mechanical construction. He joined the company in 1995.

“McKinstry continues to evolve and iterate its risk and financial planning tools to meet project timelines, budgets and expected outcomes, said Miller. “This evolution allows us to serve our clients effectively as construction projects grow in size and complexity.”

McKinstry also promoted Thomas Tellefson to director of mechanical construction for Western Washington. Tellefson now leads all Western Washington mechanical contracting teams with specific responsibility over client service delivery and pipeline development. Tellefson joined McKinstry in 2005, working on a variety of commercial, data center, healthcare, manufacturing and higher education projects. He previously served as McKinstry’s business development director for mechanical construction.

“McKinstry has built a fantastic platform for client excellence across our mechanical construction projects and teams,” said Tellefson. “We will use that platform as a springboard to deliver the same high standards of quality and innovation to each client, only faster, more efficient and at a lower cost.”

The mechanical construction leadership team expanded under Tellefson with multiple additional promotions and assignments, including:

Joan Smith is now business development director for mechanical construction, lending her engineering capabilities and strategic guidance to better serve McKinstry clients. She joined McKinstry in 2007.

Matt Nelson is now director of preconstruction for mechanical construction. He is charged with streamlining preconstruction activities with a focus on technology and process improvement. Nelson joined McKinstry in 2015 and has worked in the industry since 1999.

Sean Kennedy is now McKinstry’s chief estimator for mechanical construction. A 17-year industry veteran, Kennedy has extensive experience as both an estimator and project manager across a wide variety of markets. He joined McKinstry in 2007.

“McKinstry continually strives to make the construction industry more productive and deliver more for our clients in less time and at less cost,” said Brian Antonsen, McKinstry’s vice president of mechanical construction. “These five individuals deliver the leadership team we need to drive our project teams and industry forward.”
