Build the future, spark innovation and align your career with purpose.

McKinstry is innovating the waste and climate harm out of the built environment and creating lasting impact. Together, we’re building a thriving planet.

Buildings are a leading contributor to the climate crisis, generating nearly 40% of total global energy-related carbon emissions. We’re making a lasting impact on our industry and within our communities by addressing the climate, affordability and equity crises through:

  • renewables and energy services
  • engineering and design
  • construction and facility services

To get where we’re going, we need big thinkers, problem solvers and collaborative mindsets. Does that sound like you?

The Opportunity with McKinstry

Our engineering team is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to help scale our Zero+ Decarbonization Planning offering. In this role, you will support the delivery of complex building, high performance district energy, and portfolio-wide electrification and decarbonization projects. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate and review existing building electrical systems. This requires you to coordinate and conduct site walks and interpret available documentation. You will determine and summarize existing loads, available electrical capacity, constraints, and opportunities for electrification.
  • Work hand in glove with our mechanical engineers to define opportunities and appropriate scopes for electrification projects based on client needs, budget, and existing infrastructure constraints. Electrical engineers are involved earlier and have more system selection influence than the typical MEP design process.
  • Evaluate electrical infrastructure capacity to interconnect on-site solar, BESS and potentially other DERs.
  • Evaluate on-site PV design concepts or work with other internal McKinstry resources to do so.
  • Evaluate client EV charging needs or work with other internal McKinstry resources to do so.
  • Document your electrical design solutions with diagrams and system schematics using Revit, CAD, PDF and/or other industry drawing tools.
  • Document the electrical scope of work associated with your designs and report on system design and capacity constraints.
  • Interact with our in-house construction and estimating team to develop, review and in some instances, iterate, on cost estimates and electrical design concepts.
  • Select (or create) tools and approaches to analyze building electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with design team members to share interim results, inform design, and disseminate information throughout the predesign and conceptual design processes.
  • Engage with and present your work to clients.
