Texas State Technical College
Located in the center of the wind generation industry Texas State Technical College, West Texas (TSTC West) offers a curriculum rich in sustainability and energy management. In 2006, TSTC West was ready to renovate aging facilities and implement a comprehensive energy efficiency program, and they wanted an energy services company that shared their values and commitment to the environment. The McKinstry Direct Energy team was selected to provide reliable electric service at a competitive rate and implement energy savings strategies across all four TSTC West campuses. The scope of work included campus-wide lighting retrofits, air conditioning system replacements, energy management system control upgrades, computer power management and vending machine power management.
The McKinstry team took on all aspects of design and project management for the lighting retrofit, energy management system upgrades, computer power management, and vending machine control portions of the project. To implement the air conditioning upgrades quickly and safely, systems were air lifted by helicopter.
TSTC West is now able to quickly and efficiently control energy consumption, define and respond to operating problems across four campuses, and control material inventories. All improvements were funded through savings guaranteed over a 10 year period. The upgrades resulted in an improved learning atmosphere and annual energy savings of $207,215. The project also reduces the campuses’ environmental impact through a reduction of 2,378,239 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.
