Centennial School District
A K12 powerED Solution from McKinstry
Centennial School District’s relationship with McKinstry began in 2010. The District was looking for ways to reduce operating costs to help mitigate reduced funding support.
McKinstry conducted an audit of the District’s facilities and identified a number of energy conservation and facility improvement measures. Centennial entered into an energy savings performance contract (ESPC) with McKinstry to implement selected measures such as lighting, re-commissioning, and building envelope improvements.
In addition to the ESPC project, Centennial is implementing a multi-year powerED contract. The powerED program uses three modules—People, Process, and Performance—to help clients like Centennial become even more efficient.
The campaign at the core of powerED’s People module, called “People.Power.Planet,” raises awareness of energy and resource waste. Centennial was the first of McKinstry’s clients to incorporate the People.Power.Planet campaign in their schools. Since launching the campaign in Fall 2010, 4,893 Centennial School District students and staff have pledged to make energy-conscious behavior changes while on-site staff “Champions” and student Power Patrol teams encourage participation and conservation.
The District’s powerED program also includes technical consulting on no-cost and low-cost solutions to save energy and resources. McKinstry’s powerED technical consultant is working with key staff members in each building to supplement the ESPC savings with scheduling and system controls changes, as well as recommendation of new practices.
McKinstry is employing our industry-leading software to track and report energy use for Centennial. District stakeholders receive detailed online progress reports via powered.mckinstry.com. Data is also fed to the People.Power.Planet website for students, administrators, and teachers to track their progress and celebrate their success.
Since implementing McKinstry’s recommended facility improvement measures and the powerED program, Centennial Schools have achieved more than $245K in utility and operational savings.
