St. Anthony Schools

McKinstry helped St. Anthony-New Brighton School District to become the first Minnesota school district to install the Solar Wall application, a passive solar collector that absorbs the sun’s radiant energy and conducts it to fresh air being delivered to the school. Using the solar wall to preheat the fresh air reduces the amount of heat that needs to be added through mechanical means.

In addition to providing a sustainable way to deliver heat to the building, the project is being leveraged to enhance school curriculum, providing real world data for the students at St. Anthony High School to analyze and piquing their interests in the math and science behind the technologies of the 21st Century.

As part of the overall energy and health and safety program, McKinstry:

  • Replaced/upgraded the 60-year-old boiler plant
  • Installed fire protection and replacement ceilings
  • Retrofitted new high efficiency lighting
  • Installed an open protocol digital control
  • Enhanced comfort & efficiency at the school’s swimming pool
