Valley Medical Center

Valley Medical Center’s facilities department needed to acquire the capital necessary to address an aging mechanical and electrical infrastructure. McKinstry assessed the center’s existing mechanical and electrical systems and identified potential energy conservation and facility improvement strategies. These solutions  helped facilitate the replacement of the aging and inefficient infrastructure by utilizing the existing operations and maintenance budget. Specifically, the following steps were taken.

  • Energy upgrades were made to the Valley Professional Center by replacing lighting and terminal boxes, and by extending the existing building automation system. By completing this phase of the project, Valley Medical Center will save over $38,000 annually in reduced energy costs, repair costs, and future avoided capital expenditures.
  • McKinstry performed HVAC system renovations to the surgery center penthouse and mechanical rooms, with total first year savings estimated at $193,624.
  • McKinstry signed a $6.5 million contract with Valley Medical Center in February 2007 for the construction of a new central chilled water plant. McKinstry will perform all of the mechanical and electrical work associated with the new construction. McKinstry is projecting that Valley Medical Center will receive $100,000 in rebates from Puget Sound Energy.
