Washington State Legislative Building
The State of Washington turned to McKinstry for leadership in the extensive 450,000 sq. ft. rehabilitation/remodel of this historic building.
The scope of the project included upgrades to the mechanical, plumbing, fire sprinkler, controls, electrical, and telecommunications systems. McKinstry self-performed the sheet metal and plumbing while subcontracting the HVAC piping and the fire sprinkler. McKinstry also coordinated the work of at least a dozen other subcontractors for demolition, saw cutting, core drilling, scaffolding, concrete pads, structural reinforcement, and ductwork cleaning.
The unique scope of this project included the saw cut and removal of thousands of feet of interior slab-on-grade and the replacement of existing plumbing lines up to 10 feet deep. Ductwork was either cleaned-in-place or replaced above many of the building’s existing ornate vaulted ceilings.
