City of Duncanville
Home to 38,000 residents, the City of Duncanville is located less than 20 minutes from the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. With the quaintness of a small town and the convenience of big city access, Duncanville takes special pride in its energy-conscious initiatives. McKinstry approached Duncanville officials with an opportunity to take their green initiatives to the next level with a solar photovoltaic project that would be largely funded by a Distributed Renewable Energy Technology Stimulus Grant. The grant, administered by SECO for the United States Department of Energy, would be supported with additional funds provided through a utility rebate from Oncor. The project entailed installation of roof-mounted, grid-tied solar photovoltaic systems on three buildings: the City Hall/Police station (53.55 kW array), the Recreation Center/Library (88.2 kW array), and the Senior Center (44.1 kW array), for a total of 185.85 kW. McKinstry served as the project and construction manager, provided grant administration and reporting, and aided in the rebate acquisition process for this project which has a projected annual utility savings of 257,802 kWh. The annual projected savings to the City is $26,141. With a total out-of-pocket cost of $21,582.20 to the City, the project is expected to pay for itself in less than a year.
