BP Endicott Facility
BP commissioned Parker Drilling to build a massive drill rig weighing 7,000 tons, and standing a dizzying 240-feet high, for its Endicott Production Facility in Alaska. Hailed as one of the largest drills in the world, and the world’s largest land-based rig, it will require a crew of nearly 200 people to operate. Parker assembled a highly-technical construction team that included Electrix, a McKinstry subsidiary. Electrix installed all of the drill’s electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, controls, communication, and hydraulic systems.
The drill covers over 4.5 acres under one roof, and is taller than the I-5 Bridge from the water during a lift and as tall as the Seattle Art Museum. Its distinguishing features include its ability to drill horizontally and vertically resulting in a smaller footprint, and a design that makes use of the existing infrastructure on which it stands. It unique drilling capability is expected to increase production at the Endicott facility, and to revolutionize the oil industry.
