McKinstry partners with architects from the first moments of planning to maximize efficiencies whenever possible—aligning rooms between floors, negating the chimney effect cased by elevators, and assuring that there’s enough hot water and energy available during peak times, all while making the most ambitions design elements possible. And by helping fit robust technologies into small spaces, we’re often able to save high-rise owners tremendous amounts of money on each and every floor of their building. In a two tower, condominium/retail complex, we not only provided Mechanical expertise, but innovative technologies that lead toward Sustainability, an issue that becomes of greater importance with each passing day. But being the furthest part of the building from the ground, and exposed to the elements 24/7, they’re also the most difficult place to work. McKinstry addresses these issues by prefabricating and testing systems thoroughly before they’re installed. And we configure our technologies so parts that will require periodic replacement are quick and easy to access. McKinstry is also a national leader in green building technology, turning rooftops into places for collecting alternate energy sources. For every healthcare client, McKinstry engineers study all the necessary energy, gas, and water technologies and then bring them into alignment as compactly as possible. As for clean air, we create powerful venting technologies, HEPA filtration systems to stop germs in their tracks, and sophisticated outputs that create Laminar Flow and a perfect downward flow of air in operating rooms that maintain a sterile environment for patients. Government buildings run the gamut from small offices to large jails, from courthouses to city halls and police departments. But they all share three challenges: they must be built on aggressive budgets, they must be energy efficient to protect already stretched taxpayer dollars, and they must be extremely functional to get the most use out of every square foot. McKinstry makes all three happen. Both in new construction and retrofit projects, McKinstry engineers and installs HVAC and plumbing systems that meet construction budgets in the short term and reduce energy consumption in the long term. We also offer 24/7 monitoring to make sure each system works at top efficiency and provide instant response to any problem. McKinstry works with many government entities, always with the aim of protecting their budgets. For the State of Washington Legislative Building, we self-performed the Mechanical and supervised other vendors in the installation of additional systems, including Energy. We provided Facility Management, Performance Contracting, and Commissioning for Washington’s Department of Ecology Building. And the city of Golden, Colorado turned to us for help with Sustainability issues, including HVAC projects and the introduction of Renewable energy sources. Parking garages aren’t glamorous, but they’re among the hardest working environments in any building, featuring technologies that impact the health and comfort of every person who enters. It all starts with safety. McKinstry creates and installs powerful venting systems that pull clean air in and push dirty air out. We also configure oil separation systems to protect the environment. And our engineers are experts at configuring space for water tanks, back-up generators, and mechanical systems while also leaving maximum room for parking stalls—an increasingly important income source for buildings. With help from McKinstry, the bottom of a building can be great for the bottom line. McKinstry creates parking areas that do far more than just house cars. For a 17-story mixed office building, we designed and installed the core and shell Fire Protection system. We also provided Fire Protection and Mechanical for the underground parking garage of a software giant. This project covers over 1.5 million sq. ft, the equivalent of nearly four football fields.
