Senator Cantwell Announces Enactment of Historic Clean Energy Tax Package at McKinstry Headquarters
October 2008
Tax Incentives to Stimulate Local Economic Growth; Continue Washington Leadership on Clean Energy
Seattle, WA (10/14/08) – During a press conference at McKinstry headquarters Tuesday, Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) announced the enactment of a historic tax package that will stimulate the local economy, create green collar jobs, and accelerate Washington State’s transition to a clean energy economy. The Senator lauded Washington companies such as McKinstry that will use the green energy tax incentives, which will provide the stability and transparency required by businesses and credit markets to invest in clean energy. The incentives will also empower homeowners to generate and save their own energy.
“This clean energy tax incentives package marks a game-changing decision to begin an urgently needed shift form the fossil fuels era to a clean energy system based on domestically produced and environmentally friendly 21st century’s technologies,” the Senator said. “For the first time Congress has voted to take subsidies away from oil and gas companies and allocate the dollars to renew able energy sources.”
As a member of the Senate Finance Committee since 2007, Senator Cantwell has been a leading public advocate and behind the scenes force in developing the landmark clean energy tax package, and she played a major role in brokering the bipartisan deal that enabled it to be signed into law. “These tax incentives represent real economic stimulus that will help accelerate economic growth in Washington and across the country in one of the few bright spots of our troubled economy,” said Cantwell.
“McKinstry has long been on the forefront of promoting energy-efficient, green building practices, and we applaud Senator Cantwell’s leadership on this legislation,” said McKinstry Executive Vice President David Allen. “We believe it will promote green collar job creation, stimulate investment in clean, renewable energy sources, and reinforce Washington State as a leader in clean energy.”
McKinstry will use the clean energy tax incentives to: provide clients with additional tools for creating more energy efficient facilities; bring together stakeholders, suppliers, and clients around a common goal of environmental stewardship thereby promoting community interest in sustainable policies; and attract more clean energy projects that will generate “family-wage jobs.”
David Allen: “We are convinced that in order to accomplish ambitious goals in the green movement, the government, at all levels, needs to work to provide incentives that accelerate sustainable development.”
