The Bethel School District, Energy Services Project, integrated five separate public elementary schools (Evergreen, Naches Trail, Shining Mountain, Clover Creek and Spanaway) and covered more than 240,000 total square feet. This retrofit was on a fast-track schedule with an “absolute” deadline.
Ninety-five classroom unit ventilators were replaced with rooftop electric heat pumps, distribution duct and ceiling diffusers. Hot water re-circulation pumps and lamps were also exchanged in three out of five schools. Flush valves were replaced with low-flow water-saver valves. Pneumatic controls were replaced in four of the schools, with new Alerton DDC controls, which manage the thermostats, heat pumps, air conditioning economizer functions, exterior lighting, building exhaust fans and all pump motors. The new controls allow management of the entire structure and insure optimal efficiency.
Replacement of the old equipment has provided a quieter more comfortable environment, as well as significantly better indoor air quality. All combined, the increased Energy Efficiency and Reduced Maintenance Costs have extended the life of the building well into the future. The new systems meet current Washington State Energy Codes and Ventilation Codes. |
