The University Prep Campus expansion includes two new 3-story 23,000 square foot buildings and sprinkler installation in an existing 22,000 square foot 2-story Commons building. The project is divided between the new classroom building and the administration building. The classroom building has three floors of classrooms served by floor mounted Williams fan coil units with hot water heating coils. All rooms have gable or shed type ceilings so all duct is exposed round duct as it comes out of the closets. Other systems include a restroom exhaust, electrical room exhaust, men’s / women’s bathrooms, fire sprinklers, hot water piping, etc. The central boiler room is located on the bottom floor of the classroom building and also serves the new administration building, providing hot water to the fan coil units and VAV boxes in that building. A 30-ton packaged VAV unit with VAV boxes and hot water heating coils serves a majority of the cooling to the offices on the top two floors in the Administration Building. The bottom floor consists of science and other classrooms that are served by Williams fan coil units.

The ceiling coordination was extremely complex because this project utilized a rated ceiling so every diffuser had to have a radiation damper. The fan coil units in each closet are located on the exterior walls. Each unit needed a make-up air louver and an exhaust louver which had to be separated per code, and required ducting. It was a challenge to locate louvers and still maintain a pleasing appearance for the building.
